A Simple Plan:

The Importance of WHMIS Training

Workplace injuries happen all the time. But most of them can be avoided with the right training and education. The WHMIS training is one form of training that help employees avoid potential injuries in the workplace.

The meaning of WHMIS is Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System. All chemicals and gases found in the workplace are included in these hazardous materials. This system helps to avoid injury and ensure protection of the environment. People handling hazardous chemicals are kept safe because they are taught how to handle and dispose of dangerous materials and they are taught how to read safety labels.

It is important for workers to get WHMIS training because this is the one that can help protect their health and the health of the workplace. There are many different kinds of chemicals found in different workplaces. And these chemicals have different side effects. The reason why these chemicals have different handling requirements is because they damage that they can cause are also different. Although workers are taught how to handle hazardous materials, it is not everything to WHMIS training. It also involves educating employees in different situations not only avoiding contact with chemicals but also how to deal with exposure to toxic chemicals that can cause respiratory and other health problems. This training also involves how to clean and dispose of materials in specific ways. The regulations given will help employees avoid risks and prepare for potentially dangerous situations.

There are no changes when it comes to the basics across all regulations. It involves labelling dangerous materials. It regulates continuous training on those labels and potential hazards. Part of WHMIS is the MSDS or maintenance of material safety data sheets.

If a workplace contains or use products that have WHMIS symbols and labels, then their employees need to have training. Employers are legally required to provide these training under federal regulations. Only employees exposed to these materials and are likely to come in contact with them have to be trained. There is no need to undergo training if an employees work does not involve these hazards. YOU need to be trained as a new employee even you are already WHMIS certified. Training is specific to their workplace.

WHMIS training consist of general training and site-specific training. In the general training employees learn about labels and symbols on hazardous materials. Reading labels is important for employees.

This general training can also be taken online. This training keeps employees updated on WHMIS regulations and labels. Site-specific training is not covered online.

Site-specific training is training in your specific workplace. It describes what substances are being used and how to handle them safely. Disposing of chemicals and how to deal with emergency situations are also taught.

WHMIS training makes your employees become safe and well prepared for this tasks.
